INdAM Intensive Period on Poisson Geometry and Mathematical Physics

    Intensive Period

The aim of the Intensive Period is to bring together researchers interested in Poisson geometry in a broad sense and mathematical physics from Italy and from abroad. It also aims at presenting the foundations of the theory as well as its more recent results/ramifications to potentially interested young researchers. There is a limited amount of funds to support young participants (MSc and PhD students, Post-Docs, etc.) interested in attending any of the programmed activities. The Intensive Period is organized in: - a series of Seminars & Workshops comprising: .a Mini-Workshop on Symmetry & Reduction, .a Mini-Workshop on Lie Groupoids. Lie Algebroids & Differentiable Stacks, - Poisson 2024 comprising: .a Summer School on Poisson Geometry, including a thematic afternoon on "Distinguished Women in Mathematics", .an International Conference on Poisson Geometry.

The Ceresa Cycle in Arithmetic and Geometry

    Workshop

In the 1980s, Ceresa exhibited one of the first naturally occurring examples of an algebraic cycle, the Ceresa cycle, which is in general homologically trivial but algebraically nontrivial. In the last few years, there has been a renewed interest in the Ceresa cycle, and other cycle classes associated to curves over arithmetically interesting fields, and their interactions with analytic, combinatorial, and arithmetic properties of those curves. We hope to capitalize on this momentum to bring together different communities of arithmetic geometers to fully explore explicit computations around the arithmetic and geometry of cycles when these various approaches are systematically combined.

    Long-Time Behavior in Fluids

    Seminar

The seminar will tie together two active research directions: complex fluids and long time behavior of Euler, Navier-Stokes and related equations. The seminar will focus on new trends in the investigation of long time behavior, mixing, emergence of coherent structures, topological change and singularity formation in fluids. There will be three pedagogical mini-courses aimed at exposing students to the themes of long time behavior and inviscid limit, of complex fluids and of singularity formation. Problem sessions will accompany these courses, during which specific open problems will be stated and discussed. Specific lectures will describe methods of nonlinear and nonlocal analysis with emphasis on broad applicability. Please see the detailed program on the website of the seminar. Deadline for application: 1 March 2024

    Classification of C*-Algebras and Dynamics

    Seminar

The last decade has seen repeated advances in the structure and classification of C*-algebras and C*-dynamical systems. The week long seminar will be devoted to these themes. The target audience is PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, and our objective is to introduce participants to the key ideas and tools. We will focus on instructive special cases and examples, with the aim that participants can use classification theorems and techniques in their own research. Please see the detailed program, recommended reading list and application details on the website of the seminar. Deadline for application: 1 March 2024

    Random Matrices and Applications

    Workshop

This workshop focuses on the role of random matrices in data science, machine learning, and theoretical computer science. The goal is to discuss a number of hot topics in these areas, focusing on recent theoretical progress and the potential pool of applications, in a manner that is accessible to a wide audience, including researchers in data science, electrical engineering, statistics, and numerical analysis.

For upcoming mathematical outreach events, see Pop Math administered by the EMS’s committee for Raising Public Awareness of Mathematics.
